Our Team

The work of a veterinarian is never done. Advancements in animal medicine and ever-evolving medical practices require that veterinarians stay at the forefront of new developments in the field. Our veterinarians are dedicated to helping pets in Livonia and surrounding areas stay healthy through responsible client education and thoughtful treatment. They also strive to continue to improve the level of care they provide, receiving Continuing Education training and learning about innovative new treatments and services. Learn about them in the sections below and contact us at (734) 464-6281 if you have any questions for our team!

Our Veterinarians

dr fleming dvm

Pat Fleming, DVM

Dr. Fleming started working at Levan Road Veterinary Hospital in 1989 and has been a co-owner since 2001. While in the eighth grade, she wrote about becoming an equine veterinarian in order to combine two interests, a love of horses and science. Since then, she went on to earn her Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees at Michigan State University in East Lansing. Despite still having a love of horses, Dr. Fleming became a small animal veterinarian and loves being able to help animals and people, and help enhance the human-animal bond. Always up-to-date with the development of veterinary medicine on a local, national and international scale, Dr. Fleming regularly participates in continuing education opportunities and is an active member of the MVMA, AVMA, and AAHA.

She is especially proud that Levan Road Veterinary Hospital earned AAHA accreditation in 2009; an accreditation program for veterinary practices nationwide that is entirely voluntary. The entire team worked hard for the practice to be evaluated on about 900 rigorous standards with the goal of providing the best patient care possible; only about 15% of veterinary practices nationwide are AAHA accredited. Once accredited, a practice must undergo on-site evaluations every three years to maintain accreditation.

A Detroit native and graduate of Cass Technical High School, Dr. Fleming lives in Livonia with her husband, Greg, their son, Joseph, and their two cats.  When Dr. Fleming is not working, she likes spending time with her family, scrapbooking, and riding her bike.  She also enjoys visiting Mackinac Island with her family.

Laura Kulinski-Masell, DVM

Dr. Kulinski-Masell (Dr. K) has been practicing at Levan Road Veterinary Hospital since she graduated from veterinary school in 1988. She earned her Bachelor’s and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees at Michigan State University. Dr. K knew in kindergarten that she wanted to be a veterinarian. She loves her job because she realizes the important role that pets play in people's lives. Helping pets allows her to fulfill an important need for the owner as well, which is to see their pet happy and healthy.

Dr. K enjoys regularly participating in continuing education opportunities and is a member of the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA), the Southeastern Michigan Veterinary Medical Association (SEMVMA), the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), and the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). She's also a member of the Academy of Excellence and Continuing Education, and attended the NAVC Institute in Orlando for ultrasonography.

Dr. K currently resides in Farmington Hills with her husband, their two college students, and their pets, Shadow, Licorice, and Odin.

He initially worked as an associate small animal veterinarian for six years before coming to Levan Road Veterinary Hospital in 1994. Dr. Masell enjoys being a veterinarian because it allows him to support and improve the human-animal bond, meet people and their pets, and provide compassionate care to some of our best friends.

Dr. Masell maintains an active membership with the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA), the Southeastern Michigan Veterinary Medical Association (SEMVMA), the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), and the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), and especially enjoys continuing education opportunities at the MVC and SEVMA seminar series. A native of Southeastern Michigan, Dr. Masell grew up in Redford Township and is a proud graduate of Redford Union in 1981. He now lives in Farmington Hills with his wife Laura, their son and daughter, their cat, Licorice, and a dog named Shadow. When Dr. Masell is not working, he likes traveling and being outdoors—fishing, golfing, and woodworking.

Lora Montgomery, DVM

Dr. Lora Montgomery joined Levan Road Veterinary Hospital in January 2017. She is a 2005 graduate of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University and holds a Bachelor’s degree in microbiology and molecular genetics. During her undergraduate studies, she worked in the Virology section of the Diagnostic Center for Population and Animal Health. Dr. Montgomery also previously worked at a veterinary clinic downriver for 11 years. She is particularly interested in ultrasound and internal medicine.

Always up-to-date with veterinary medicine developments at the local, national, and international levels, Dr. Montgomery regularly participates in continuing education opportunities and is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA), and the Southeastern Michigan Veterinary Medical Association (SEMVMA).

Outside of work, Dr. Montgomery enjoys playing the trumpet, reading, and spending time with family, furry or otherwise. She currently lives in Canton with her husband, their son and two daughters, two dogs, and a cat named Marshmallow. Dr. Montgomery could not imagine anything more rewarding than being a vet and even as a 2-year old, she was caught looking into the family dog’s mouth and counting its teeth!

Dr. Andrea Smirnes

Andrea Smirnes, DVM

Dr. Smirnes does enjoy many opportunities for continuing education, particularly those relating to behavior medicine. She attends the International VMX conference annually.

Dr. Smirnes prides herself in providing compassionate care, and is always looking for ways to make pets and owners less anxious and apprehensive during their vet visits.

Dr. Smirnes grew up in Warren, MI, with her husband. She is the proud parent of 2 adult children, Meghan and Nathan, and her fur family, a retired Greyhound and 2 bossy cats.
